Week of January 7: Happy New Year
We had a fun Christmas in Arizona this year and as soon as it was over, began packing up to head back east. Taylor took his first plane ride, and was great. I tried to nurse him on the takeoff and landing, and that helped make him more comfortable. Thankfully, Tim's mom traveled back with me, as Tim had meetings with his team for a couple more days. It was much more tricky with two children than with one… but we did it! I would highly recommend stickers for the plane and downloads of favorite TV shows on the computer! Grace was happy as could be. The only thing I wish that I had done differently was use the kind of car seat that turns in to a stroller for Grace, as she fell asleep as we began the decent, and I had to pick her up out of the seat causing her to wake up against her wishes. That, and maybe not pack as if we were traveling across the ENTIRE GLOBE! I remember the days when I used to have a carry-on filled with magazines and snacks that did not look like cartoons! What a prehistoric notion.
Air travel is not the only thing that has changed. I used to look at the parking lot signs in store lots that said "mom with baby parking" and think it was excessive. NO MORE! Oh my, I think that they should go one step further and simply have a drive up window for moms with more than two children in the car. "Hi, I would like to order a gallon of milk, Pampers size 1's, some gum, and deodorant, please." It would be perfect. Getting them both in to and out of their car seats, binkies flying everywhere, is crazy! So I would just start belting out songs…more for my sanity than anything else, as I am positive that #1 and #2 (as we refer to them now) could care less about a boat row row rowing! Once the car was in drive and some AM radio for white noise got going, all was calm, all was bright!
We arrived in NYC, and as soon as we had our first takeout meal (which I was looking forward to)…Grace and I began a long night battling food poisoning. It is one of the saddest things when your little one is sick in any way. My parents were our "heroes" as Grace put it. She and I slept together and I felt so torn between Taylor and her. At one point, I was nursing Taylor, holding Grace, and had to get sick. What was a mom to do? I called for my own mom!
"Mommy, if I get sick one more time, I will not have any more pj's", Grace said after yet another round. Thankfully the Dreft team sent us a huge supply! I have never done so many loads of laundry in one day. Everything was in piles, sheets, towels, and clothes. A mess for sure, but with all hands on deck- we made it. Taylor made it through without a peep. He is so good! And, he was more than happy to get bonus time in the bouncy seat. I cannot tell who loves it more: mom or baby!
I told myself that this was the week to get so much done before heading back to the View. Maybe get my hair cut, or a manicure, clean the apartment, go for a run in the park, and write thank-yous… New plan: hydrate, sleep, and take time to recoup before show time! Be well, and I will see you soon!

We'll be back the week of January 21st with lots more excitement, and hopefully less nausea!
