Week of October 8: Getting Ready For The Arrival

I have been telling myself to write down everything… especially since Grace was born… and truthfully, in the beginning, I was entirely committed to doing so.

Everything from how many diapers she had, to the times that I fed her, and the milestones that she reached… And then, somehow, whether because she naps less, or I am doing more… the notes I write are more and more spaced out.

Thankfully, Dreft asked me to do this blog… so that I will document it all once more!!! This time around, chronicling both the expectancy then as a mom of two. They are giving away 1,000 free Shutterfly customizable baby books albums* to the first readers of my blog so you help capture these special moments too!

So here we are: just about a month away from our second child being born. I keep joking with everyone that this baby has more room to play in my belly than in our apartment! The sad thing is, IT'S TRUE!!! New York City has many things to offer, but space for families to grow inside their homes is not one of them. We have been trying desperately to purge everything we do not need. For Tim, being the neat freak and organizational pro that he is… this is a simple task. But I find it traumatic to toss an odd sock!

With the impending "addition" I have been feeling the pressure of getting Grace ready for the big day… We took her to a furniture store and had her "try-on" big-girl-beds. She loved it. Then came the irrational pregnant woman impulses of ordering twin sheets online for her new bed like mad! Everyday a package of bedding supplies would come. This past week, her new bed arrived bit-by-bit… first the mattress- then the bed! We washed it all and got it ready like a big present for her when she came home after a class. When she walked into the room she said: "OH MY GOODNESS!!!", and ran into it!

She has been sleeping well in it since… and still calls for us to get her out!

We have been asking her for some time now where the new baby will sleep, and she will now say, "in the crib". She seems fine with the idea now… we will see what happens when the time comes for someone to sleep in what was once hers!

I am easing up on the notion that Grace has to be potty-trained by the time this new baby comes… and just pacing things out a bit more. Another celebrity was on the show the other day with twins… both fully potty trained. And then there is me: who can barely get one child on the potty!

Honestly, I have been so focused on getting her prepared for the changes that are about to occur, that this pregnancy has flown by almost too quickly. First time around I had my hospital bag ready to go by now, bottles washed and ready, bassinet up. Truthfully, I forgot to register at the hospital until I began writing this all down! Most of all, I am so afraid that the excitement of Halloween candy will throw me into labor and I will be at the hospital giving birth in costume!

I will keep you posted soon!
