Week of November 5: Entry 3: What's New in Arizona
Still no sign of baby #2 yet! I am having some contractions at night that make me think it may happen soon! I have been having a hard time getting out of bed... especially because I get up at least 4 times, either for the bathroom, or for Grace... so I bought this faux-satin PJ set, and I literally can slide right out of the sheets now!
This past week I met my doctor out here. A great friend raved about her and referred her to me, but I still felt nervous the morning of the visit. I ate a box of gluten-free cookies for breakfast...and when Grace asked for one, I tried to talk her out of it so that I could have it instead!!! Eventually, she got to me, and I forfeited one over. I hid the box on my lap, pretending that I was eating the same one cookie for a long time, though, and my strategy worked- the rest were ALL MINE!!
Chocolate still in my teeth, I pulled up to the office, grabbed my medical records, and headed to the front desk. The women there were incredibly warm, and so wonderful. I love my OB-GYN and her staff in NYC, so they had a lot to live up to! Without a doubt, they did just that and made me feel just as at home. Upon meeting my doctor, I immediately felt at ease. We talked about the concerns I have, and I confessed that I did ZERO prep in terms of breathing classes, or birthing...I am going on the "been there-done that" philosophy. She assured me that it will all be just fine.
I cannot stop wondering how Grace will handle it all... my staying at the hospital with the baby, her having to go home. The idea of it makes me a little weepy, in fact.
This move, though hectic, has been a blessing in terms of the time that I have had with her, leading up to the big "addition". We have spent every moment together! Yesterday, we finger- and foot-painted "masterpieces" in the backyard! She was dancing, feet full of paint, on poster-board...singing and creating!
Today, we drove up toward the mountains to see the sunset. As we got closer to the mountains, I asked Grace, "Who made those mountains?" She replied, "God, and Isa the Iguana!" (Any mom out there whose kids watch DORA the EXPLORER* would get a kick out of that!) Here is a photo from my phone.
I will write again soon!
Elisabeth
Look for my next update which will be the week of November 26. Probably with the baby!
