Week of October 26: The Big Day is Almost Here!

Well here we are in Arizona!
I left right from the live show on this past Tuesday to get approval from my OB-GYN in NYC to fly across country, and then straight to the airport, medical records in hand. Everyone at THE VIEW sent me off with lots of warmth, and I miss hot topics already! The flight seemed long… but I busied myself, and Grace, by reading her favorite books over and over again. I never underestimate the power of stickers, as well, when you have a toddler girl…

I buy them in bulk and thankfully had plenty of them on-hand. My doctor, because I was just beginning to dilate, suggested that I have one glass of wine on the plane. Apparently, the effect of alcohol keeps contractions at bay. So- I did! It was the first that I have had in 38 weeks, and most likely- the last again for quite some time if I am breastfeeding.

Honestly, my main concern has been Grace’s transition. Experts always indicate that keeping things fairly consistent for the older sibling before the second is best. Well- so much for that notion! I keep looking at my little girl thinking- new state, new home, new bedroom, new environment, and a new brother or sister!!! We’re trying to adjust to that, just in time for us to head back to NYC!!!

I am glad that I did certain things ahead of time: Having her exact sheets and comforter here when we arrived, so that the room here felt like home. I shipped many of her favorites here, stuffed animals, books, toys, her bath towel, cups and plates, sidewalk chalk. I stocked the kitchen with her “go-to” snacks. We got her a new toothbrush- which she loves! We decorated her room today with supplies from the art store… bought a wooden “G” and had her color, sticker, and glitter glue it, added a ribbon and then hung it on her doorknob.

I let Grace try on a sling with her baby-doll in it and walk around the house. We played MEMORY, and pretended she was the mommy. Her eyes were wide when she realized that she could have the baby on her, and do everything normally. I desperately want her to know that when I am holding the baby I am still “hers” too. I would recommend that to any moms expecting their second!

As for her little brother or sister…we hit the baby store here and stocked up! Newborn Swaddlers, wipes, infant tub, and a bassinet that Tim picked out!

There is a lot of kicking going on lately. By the end of the day, my legs and feet are SWOLLEN, which did not happen with Grace. (The good news is…I can barely see them now that my belly is huge!)

Who knows, maybe the next time I write- this bassinet will be occupied!

Watch for my next update the week of November 12th. Will our new addition be here? You’ll just have to come back and find out!
